Don’t meet your heroes – Logan Paul knows that better than anyone.
The social media influencer-turned boxer who has shared the ring with Floyd Mayweather, recently spoke about his sporting hero – Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson – who ultimately disappointed him.
During Paul’s rise to prominence on Vine, a short-form video hosting service where users could share six-second-long looping videos, the WWE legend got in touch, and they built a friendly rapport and even did some videos together.
In 2017, Paul released a video on YouTube after visiting Japan’s Aokigahara forest, which is also known as the ‘suicide forest’ as dozens of people go there every year to take their own lives.
The internet celebrity and his friends came across a man who had seemingly taken his own life in the forest.
After a period of initial shock, Paul began to make jokes about the situation and a severe amount of backlash that meant he lost business deals his YouTube account was temporarily demonetised.
On top of that, The Rock no longer wanted to be associated with Paul and used the publicist they shared to relay the message which was another bitter blow.
“After Japan happened, obviously [I] found myself in a hole, rightfully so, that I had never been in before. [I was] Extremely low mentally, and I got a call from my publicist who also repped Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson,” Paul told The True Geordie podcast.
“’Hey Dwayne’s asked that you remove every picture and video that you’ve done with him and maybe in the future the relationship can be reconciled but for now he basically wants nothing to do with you,’ which I also understood.

“I get it. You know, I made a grotesque error, and he has had things happen in his life where like a lot of people that incident affected him in a personal way. So, I understood it and that was the other part. I was like, ‘F***!’ You sleep in the bed you make, right?”
While Paul accepted the Hollywood actor’s decision to cut ties with him, he wishes his hero had gone about it in a different way rather than have a third party relay the message.
“I just wish I would’ve gotten like a call or a text or something because I thought we had a healthy relationship, an open line of communication,” he said.
“I was so sad because my hero wanted nothing to do with me and I was sad because I understood it, I really f***** up.
Paul has rebuilt his career and is now more successful than ever after his exhibition with Mayweather and making his WWE debut at WrestleMania 38.
‘The Maverick’ revealed now that he is back on top, ‘The Rock’ has reached out to him to express support but he isn’t interested in reconnecting.
“I did not reach out, he did. He did about three months ago like nothing ever happened. You know my video where the monkey took my Prime? He thought that was funny,” Paul said.
Paul then confirmed he hasn’t answered to ‘The Rock’, who claimed he had always been supporting him from ‘afar’, due to the way their initial relationship came to an end.
